Sesuai dengan info dari berbagai pihak maupun pihak Microsoft sendiri akhirnya Microsoft telah resmi merilis Windows 7 -nya tepatnya pada hari Kamis, 22 Oktober 2009. PT Microsoft Indonesia turut menjadi bagian dari peluncuran versi final sistem operasi tersebut.

Windows 7 dikembangkan untuk lebih baik daripada sistem operasi sebelumnya, Windows Vista. Windows 7 menawarkan sistem operasi yang lebih ringan daripada Windows Vista.

Perbaikan ini dimaksudkan agar Windows 7 dapat memangkas waktu kerja pada komputer dengan spesifikasi dan daya yang lebih rendah. Sehingga, pengguna komputer netbook berprosesor Atom dengan kartu grafik internal pun masih tetap merasa nyaman saat mengoperasikan Windows 7.

Dengan kehadiran Windows 7, maka pengembangan Windows XP dihentikan (dari info yang beredar sejak bulan Agustus 2009 pengembangan untuk Windows Xp sudah dihentikan) . Windows Vista sendiri masih akan tetap dikembangkan hingga enam tahun ke depan.

Dan menurut kabar yang beredar, Windows 7 ini dibanderol sekitar USD 100. Windows 7 dapat dibeli secara online maupu pada store yang ditunjuk oleh pihak Microsoft.

Bagi mereka yang telah membeli secara online, Microsoft akan mengirim download linknya, sehingga Windows 7 dapat diunduh. Kebanyakan orang lebih memilih untuk mengunduh Windows 7 melalui BT Torrent atau situs third-party lainnya, yang dapat beresiko palsu, bahkan terinfeksi virus.

Salah satu situs (mydigitallife.info) telah berhasil menguak link download yang biasa digunakan untuk mengunduh Windows 7 yang telah dibeli. Sebuah server yang bekerja sama dengan Microsoft untuk mengurusi host Microsoft Store, sebut saja Digital River, ternyata menggunakan link yang sama bagi semua pembeli Windows 7 melalui Microsoft Store, untuk mengunduh Windows 7. Dengan demikian, Windows 7 pun bisa kita unduh melalui link yang sama.
